Installing Java Runtime Environment (JRE)

Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is required to run certain software, such as Interactive Brokers’ TWS. Interactive Brokers website is not very clear on how to get this done. So this article talks about how to get JRE installed.

Follow this section if you encounter Java problems when you install IB’s TWS software.

TWS is based on Sun Microsystems’ Java technology. You will need to install a recent version of Java’s Runtime Environment (JRE) before TWS can even install.

What you need is a standard edition of JRE. This is called J2SE. NeoTicker® is tested on J2SE 1.4.2. So it is best you download a variant of J2SE 1.4. You can download it directly from J2SE 1.4.2

Alternatively, you can to Sun’s Jave Website and follow the J2SE link. You may need to click through several links until you reach the page to download J2SE.

J2SE 1.4.2 Download

Download the J2SE JRE (Windows Platform) installation program. Save the file to your hard drive and install.

Once you have JRE installed, re-install TWS by following the steps in Installing Interactive Brokers’ Trader Workstation Software (TWS).
