April’s Fool Day Phenomenon

One of the very rare calendar date based statistical bias happens on April’s Fool. No joke!

The Phenomenon

March 30 and March 31 each date produces an accumulated -15% return (non-compound, close to close) on Dow or S&P 500.

Then on April’s Fool, a whooping +15%. It is not the strongest performer in terms of calendar date bias, but definitely enabling the market to wipe out the losses made in the 2 prior trading days.

Maybe the stock market likes to pull a prank on its players too.

Note: Data collected over the past 50 to 60 years.

New Look of Our Company Site

We have, by accident, uploaded the new web site design as oppose to just transferring the old site to our new hosting service. After a short and energetic debate, we have decided to keep the new design and go from there.

If you find pages are being revised frequently, it is something to be expected in the coming few weeks.

Website update progress

Our work in updating the website is progressing slowly towards completion.

In coming few weeks we will move onto a complete new website design.

The goals with the new design are,

1. more expandable so that clients can find useful educational materials on using NeoTicker
2. easier to maintain so that we can add content faster and easier
3. better reflect what we do as a company

During this time, whenever we expect possible downtime or disruption to access the main website, it will be announced in advance.

Developing a Scan

Third installment on using pattern scanner.

Most people who think of using scanners do not know what they are doing, period. (Lawrence: I know I am very harsh here, but I do get emotional when I see people doing things to harm their trading accounts unnecessarily.) Throwing in whole bunch of indicators, filtering settings, etc. that you think would yield a list of candidates to monitor in real-time will not help you pick out the winning trades. Even if you do not have a concrete trading plan, you still need to think and research properly with the pattern scanners first. This article shows you the basics in using the pattern scanner to identify market bias for you.

Optimize the Real-Time Performance of Pattern Scanners

Second installment on using the pattern scanner more effectively. You can find the first one here.

There are many techniques to improve scanning performance significantly by turning on/off certain options within the pattern scanner. There are also some global settings within NeoTicker that affect scanning in real-time. I will now discuss each item separately.

Understanding the Pattern Scanners

A multi-part guideline to get top performance from using the pattern scanners.

Why Use Pattern Scanner?

Pattern Scanner, especially its ability to utilize multiple indicators in its scan, is very useful for the detection of complex setups.

Pattern Scanner is also very flexible in terms of its ability to chain the scanning, send its results to quote window, etc. Making it the tool of choice to identify trading opportunities across many symbols.
